One of my guitars looks just like one of yours! I had to run downstairs and make sure my Sunburst Robert Cray Strat was still there, Nice stuff. Have you ever built an acoustic out of Mesquite? I saw and heard one made from Ancient Kauri, a 40,000 year old guitar that looked and sounded great, I wonder how mesquite would sound?

Those Robert Cray Strats are nice ! Over at The Guitar Diner , The Eric Johnson model is pretty popular . The guys are saying it's what a Strat is supposed to be. A Guitar buddy of mine, "Deacon" gigs with one of those in his Band "The Swamp Kings" in Ohio. ( http://www.myspace.com/theswampkings )

On Mesquite as a guitar wood , Well we're about to find out . We have the CNC machine and the program for Strat' & Tele' Electric Guitar Bodies.
I have a feeling we'll have to "chamber" the bodies 'cause Mesquite weighs 4.25 LBS / bd.ft. !!! Can you imagine the "look" of a REAL WOOD Guitar ...? WOW !
I'd like to make a SG Style body , chambered , loaded with Duncan '59's , and a Gibson Flying VEE style neck !
Kind of like this ... ( Guild , of course ) ...
HeeHee !
Where is Kauri from John ...?...and, Are you a Living Room Hack™ , or do you play out and people pay money to hear you wail ...?

Hey ... thanks for mentioning my band, and for showing off my Eric Johnson Strat. I've owned a TON of Strats and high end Strat knock-offs, and this Strat is THE best Strat I've ever owned. Reply to this

LOL ! I feel like a "Radio" guy right about now ... "Well , thanks for stopping by Doug, tell me ... , what is it about the EJ Strat' that makes it the BEST...? Is it the SOUND it produces , the FEEL of the instrument in your hands , the quality of the WORKMANSHIP of the wood / plastic & metal that all comes together just-right ...? Or is it just , real pretty ? ( what do they call that color BTW ...? Reply to this

Nice site, Dan! I hope to be able to procure a chambered Mesquite Tele body from ya one of these days. The powderblue cock-a-doodle II looks sharp! In the interest of political fairness, shouldn't you post the famous pic of the Pres misfingering the G chord alongside the Howard Dean pic? Reply to this
Love that pic up top. That idea of a mesquite-bodied amp you came up with awhile back is appealing to me. As soon as I get the shop back up and running, I'll give you a call; e-mail me your phone #, and I'll get in touch when productions starts up again. Reply to this

On the Ancient Kauri wood the distributor is www.pacifichardwoods.com check out this link also www.ancientkauri.co.nz/ for the story of how these trees have been preserved for so long. I find your page interesting because I have been a CNC programmer for 30 years since the days of the old Bandits and a guitar player for longer than that. I mostly just play old blues and folk stuff on a D-15 I have, (I finally just ordered a D-35 after waiting thirty years, don't have it yet.) I'm not a performer but I do like to crank some Jimi at times and jam along. I'll try to find that site with the Kauri acoustic it has a wav along with some cool pics. Later Reply to this

Hey Joe , Thanks for stopping by. I just opened the place , and it looks like it's going to get some good information going . I've got several guys lines up to give how-to details on lots of different projects. As far as the Combiners and splitters, I moved here to Mayberry about a year ago. I haven't really tried to market them at all, and so they are still a best kept secret in guitar geek-dom . I use both my orange Splitter / Combiner and the blue CockaDoodleII for all kinds of things . I gave away about 20 of them and sold a dozen or so , just before I bought a pile of high-grade pots & parts to make a bunch , and now they're all in storage. Reply to this
It is Sapele. Looks like mahogany, but a little more brown in color. It's used because it is so stable (doesn't warp/expand contract) and finishes up with a 3D type look.
My name is Christian Druery and I am a Luthier from New Zealand. I primarily build steel string acoustic guitars using the indigenous timber to my country such as Kauri,40,000 yr old Ancient Kauri and Rimu. After many years experimenting I have perfected their use for instrument making. Tonally my guitars are very rich, full and beautifully balanced with incredible sustain. I use Paua to inlay my instruments in the form of traditional Maori Kowhaiwhai designs. I believe I offer something unique to this industry, with the innovative use of these amazing timbers, beautiful Paua shell inlays along with my expertise in design and 10 years building instruments. I would encourage you to have a look at my website for more information at www.christiandruery.com Reply to this
